Yellow Fever
Yellow Fever
Yellow fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, especially in the jungle environment. Symptoms may be absent or mild, but in severe cases it can cause internal bleeding, organ failure and death.
All travellers should avoid mosquito bites, particularly between dusk and dawn.
The yellow fever vaccine is a highly effective live vaccine and in general vaccination is recommended for all persons visiting countries where there is a risk of yellow fever virus. Very rarely yellow fever vaccination is associated with serious adverse reactions. Travellers 60 years or older and those with certain are required to weigh up the benefits and risks from the vaccine. We can help with this. Perhaps travelling to a yellow fever risk area be best avoided, or we can issue a Medical Letter of Exemption (MLoE).
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate, officially known as the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), or MLoE are required for entry into some countries, particularly those countries where yellow fever is present or where there’s a risk of transmission.
