Period Delay and Contraception
Period Delay and Contraception
Travellers can delay their period by taking norethisterone or the combined contraceptive pill back-to-back. Norethisterone 5 mg is indicated for the postponement of menstruation. One tablet should be taken three times a day, starting three days before the traveller expects to start their period. Norethisterone is a synthetic progestogen – this means it acts like the hormone progesterone and maintains the uterine lining, preventing it from being shed. This stops bleeding as a result. Menstruation should occur within three days of stopping norethisterone.
We can also provide your contraceptive pill, for FREE, without a prescription, maximum 12-month supply for travel purposes. You may also be able to get the contraceptive pill for the first time or to restart after a break from using it.
