Chikungunya

Chikungunya is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, which causes fever and severe joint pain. Acute symptoms – sudden onset of high fever, joint pain, nausea, muscle pain, headache, and vomiting, typically resolves within 7–10 days. Chronic symptoms – arthritis and/or fatigue, with a potentially debilitating impact that can last from months to years.

Serious complications and death are rare. Mosquito bite avoidance is important.
