Hives or urticaria are raised, red, and itchy welts on the skin that are often caused by an allergic reaction, but can also be triggered by physical factors like cold, heat, or pressure, as well as infections or stress. While individual hives typically disappear within 24 hours, new ones can form, and a full outbreak usually resolves within a few days, though chronic cases can last longer.

You get hives when something triggers high levels of histamine and other chemicals to be released in your skin. Try to find out what triggers hives for you, so you can avoid those triggers, if possible. This may help prevent an episode of hives.
